Old age has brought me few things.
If I'm tired, I find it harder to recover, old fractures hurt, and my body works less and less.
Almost without realizing it, I became less diplomatic. I go down direct; as if, as the time to live gets shorter, I have less time to waste on nonsense. And I more easily exclude people who just make me lose energy. I once justified them to the point of agony. Not now.
I'm always tired, but if someone needs help, I can force my body to do things better than I did when I was young.
Those who are part of my life have more importance than me. I am expendable.
Provided my mind stays clear until the end, I don't care how I will die or when. If I will be alone or there will be people around me. If I will die under a bridge or in a bed.
I no longer care about my physical appearance, and I walk around in clothes that are discolored and stained by the cleaning I do with the children. I don't have to please anyone with my aspect. Dressing well costs effort, and I have no energy to waste. Clean is enough.
Even with food, I changed my attitude. My friends, who remember me as a lover of good food and a discreet cook, would be horrified by what I cook for myself now. :) I eat what gives me the most energy, which keeps me on my feet better. And what costs less time and effort to cook.
What is left of what I was?
Memories, which sometimes I would like to turn off like I can do with a lamp.
And the practice of the Dharma, which for me is essential.

Adesso no.
Perfino col cibo ho cambiato attitudine.
